High School Portrait Session – Lake Las Vegas
Brian and I were lucky enough to attend the WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) convention in Las Vegas to sharpen our skills and learn about the latest trends for the year ahead. Never ones to waste time or opportunity, we were able to squeeze in some high school senior portraits for sweet Rachel, who lives near Las Vegas. High School senior portraits aren’t as popular in Southern California as they are elsewhere in the country, so we don’t get to do nearly as many of them as we like. We love working with high school seniors– capturing the joy and possibility of the future in their faces, and highlighting some of their talents. With all the selfies taken and filters to choose from, most teenagers have no shortage of pictures of themselves; but it’s still an all together different thing for a teen to hold a professional photograph of themselves in their hands and be able to share it online and in person with their friends. Also, if their yearbook allows submitting a picture of their choice, it’s great for them to have one they really love and that best represents them.
We went to a few locations around Lake Las Vegas with Rachel, all close to each other. Because we were a little crunched on time, she only did one outfit, but outfit changes between casual, trendy, and formal are often an option. Rachel is a soccer player- even landed a scholarship, so we were able to capture several with her cleats and soccer ball. We’ve also seen high school senior portraits done with musical instruments, first cars, pets, baseball bats/gloves, and letterman jackets.
If you’re considering senior portraits for your child, most are done the summer before or early fall of the senior year (if they want to be submitted on time to the yearbook, otherwise, they could be done any time). Have your senior look online for inspiration, or come up with some ideas of his or her own, and—between our studio and outdoors—we would love to make their vision into a reality!
