Maternity – Little Corona del Mar

There’s something truly magical about photographing maternity sessions by the ocean—and Little Corona del Mar might just be one of the most breathtaking backdrops in all of Newport Beach. With its soft sandy coves, rugged rock formations, and that golden light that dances off the waves at sunset, it’s the perfect setting for a maternity session that feels both elegant and naturally serene.

Whether you’re celebrating your first pregnancy or your growing family, a Little Corona del Mar maternity session captures more than just a moment—it captures the anticipation, the love, and the quiet strength that defines this season of life.

Why Choose Little Corona for Your Maternity Session?

Little Corona isn’t just beautiful—it’s peaceful and tucked away, offering a more intimate beach setting than the busier Newport beaches. The combination of ocean views, coastal cliffs, tide pools, and natural textures makes this location incredibly versatile for maternity portraits.

We love how the soft tones of the sand, sea, and sky complement neutral-toned maternity gowns and flowing fabrics. This setting offers timeless, coastal California portraits, whether barefoot in the water or perched on the rocks.

Tips for Your Maternity Session at Little Corona del Mar

1. Plan Around Golden Hour
The light about an hour before sunset is warm, flattering, and soft—perfect for dreamy maternity portraits. This is our favorite time to shoot here.

2. Wear Something That Moves
Flowy dresses and gowns work beautifully at the beach. They add motion to the photos and look incredible when caught in the breeze.

3. Bring a Towel and Flip-Flops
The walk to the beach is scenic, but rocky in places. We recommend wearing something easy to walk in and changing into your photo shoes or going barefoot once we’re in place.

4. Be Ready for a Little Adventure
Some of the best photo spots require a short walk over rocks or through tide pools. We’ll guide you the whole way, but be ready for a bit of fun exploring!

5. Bring a Partner (Or Not!)
This session can be just about you and your growing bump. We can include your partner or older children for a more complete family experience.

Celebrate This Season Before Baby Arrives

Pregnancy is full of anticipation, excitement, and emotion—and that deserves to be celebrated. A Little Corona del Mar maternity session gives you the chance to slow down, soak in the beauty of this chapter, and create images that will always bring you back to how it felt to be waiting for your little one.

Gilmore Studios would be honored to capture this special moment in a setting as beautiful as your story.

In my experience, shooting during the first few weeks is ideal. During these early days, babies tend to sleep more and curl up in those naturally cozy positions we all adore in newborn portraits. Make sure to reach out and get on the calendar before the baby is born. We want to have some wiggle room with timing once the little one arrives.
The open environment at Back Bay invites your kids to explore, walk, and twirl safely. I’m there to guide you into natural poses, creating moments that are genuine rather than staged. The golden hour (right before sunset) is the best time for a session at this location.
From photographing many first birthday sessions I’ve found that three to four weeks before your baby turns one is the sweet spot. Having it done ahead of time means you get to enjoy the session instead of squeezing it in. Plus you can have the binges back in time for a party.

Also…if you are doing a custom backdrop you want to give us some time to create it and get all the pieces in the studio (which is usually 3-4 weeks).
My heart is full today. My youngest Cody is 17. I’m soaking up every moment I have left with him at home. Cody - I love being your mom. You are so kind and loving and always thinking of others. I miss your “2 puppies” and “snazzy” but love all the new things you do now. You are amazing! I love you infinity times infinity ❤️
The Easter Bunny is coming to the studio this weekend 🐰🌸

If you’ve been thinking about spring photos for your kids, this is such a fun way to do it. The set is ready, the bunny is practicing his best poses, and the photos turn out adorable every single year.
