Balboa Yacht Club Wedding – Newport Beach

Balboa Yacht Club wedding in Corona Del Mar, Newport Beach

If you are looking for a beautiful harbor side location to celebrate your wedding day, look no further than a Balboa Yacht Club wedding in Newport Beach, CA! This historic yacht club was founded back in 1922 and continues to be a popular wedding destination for couples from everywhere.

Elisha & Chris’ dream wedding

This wedding is a few years old but we loved it so much that we had to have it on the new blog!

We photographed another wedding for a couple of their friends that referred us. When Elisha & Chris called us from their home in Washington, they said they had already decided to book us! We didn’t meet them until their engagement session at the Balboa fun zone.

Their wedding day started off a short drive away at the Island Hotel. After the getting ready photos, we drove over to a local park for the “first look” and formal photos. We always love to get all the family and bridal party photos done early. Everyone is freshly dressed and ready and everyone looks better in natural light, right? Next we made our way to Corona Del Mar for the ceremony. This cute little white church is called the Community Church Congregational.

Balboa Yacht Club nautical reception

This Balboa Yacht Club wedding was the best! We have photographed full weddings at this venue in the past but tonight’s wedding would be cocktail hour and reception only. This historic yacht club was founded back in 1922! The view from the venue can’t be beat. Guests can wander around the property outside and get some fresh ocean air while sipping cocktails. The upstairs ballroom is decorated with nautical decor throughout. Most couples have their cocktail hour by the water. When the party is ready to start, there is a separate outdoor bar upstairs on a cute patio with modern outdoor furniture.

This mama wanted something natural and timeless at the beach, and sunset gave her exactly that.

If you are planning maternity photos, think about sunrise or sunset. Those times of day truly make a difference in how relaxed and beautiful your images feel.

This year’s mini sessions are in the studio on our clean white backdrop. It’s timeless, classic, and the perfect blank canvas to let your family’s personality shine.

Last year we photographed this family, and they brought so much fun energy into their session. Proof that even on a simple backdrop, your joy and connection make the photos unique.

If you’ve been waiting for updated portraits, this is the easiest (and most fun!) way to do it
When it’s 115° by midday, sunrise is your best friend. For this session, we met at sunrise to photograph an 18-year-old heading out on his LDS mission.
	•	The light is softer and golden…perfect for portraits.
	•	The heat hasn’t set in yet, so you’re more comfortable.
	•	And bonus: fewer crowds at popular locations.

If you’re planning a summer session in Arizona, sunrise is the way to go!
When planning twin sessions, I recommend choosing a theme that works for both. Simple and timeless designs photograph beautifully. For these brothers, we created a custom backdrop with balloons and large ONE letters so they could share the stage but still have space to shine individually.

Tip: Jeans or coordinated outfits help tie the look together without making it too matchy matchy.
