Costa Mesa family photographer – Family Reunion

Costa Mesa Family Photographer – Reunion Portrait

This family reunion session in Costa Mesa was gorgeous! We love it when families take the time to coordinate outfits, patterns, and colors. We have photographed this family a few times over the years, and they always do such a great job. This session was done about an hour and a half before sunset so the light was just right. This park is one of our favorite locations in Costa Mesa. You never see anyone here, there is always plenty of parking, and the backgrounds are beautiful- it’s great! If your family is having a reunion, consider Gilmore Studios to be your Costa Mesa family photographer.

Photography tips for Family Reunion portraits

  • Have family members email photos of their outfits and then share with your photographer for advice.
  • Have family meet up at the portrait location at least 20 minutes early (especially out of town family members).
  • Have family members meet up at least 20 minutes early at the photo location.
  • When working with small children, get the group shots done first.
  • Talk to family about what you are planning to do with finished photography products- sharing costs, digital files, etc.
  • Offer a fun reward for good children, a small toy, treat, or surprise after the session is over!
  • Make dinner reservations in Newport Beach 30 minutes after your session and celebrate!

Celebrating L + E! Their engagement party was full of sweet moments, laughter, and the kind of little glances that remind you what it’s all about.

They really do bring out the best in each other and that’s my favorite thing to capture. L’s parents went above and beyond to make it a memorable day for them

✨ Ever wondered what a metal print looks like?
This video is a quick peek at one of my favorite ways to print your images.
Bold, vibrant, and ready to hang…metal prints make your photos stand out in the best way.
Your memories deserve to live on your walls, not just your phone.

A lot of parents don’t realize how sweet (and practical!) a quick tub session can be. Not only does it help clean up all that frosting, but babies love it — the splashes and giggles make for some of the cutest photos from the whole session.
It’s the perfect way to end on a happy note, with fresh, squeaky-clean memories to go with the messy ones! It’s just water - so make sure to give a real bath once you get home 😃

Here’s my secret…don’t fight it. You play, you laugh, you follow their lead.
The best photos happen when everyone’s relaxed, a little bit silly, and free to be themselves.
Real is what you’ll want to remember later.

1. Keep posing gentle and natural.
At this age, kids don’t need stiff, formal poses. Simple prompts like “look over your shoulder,” “hold your dress,” or “twirl once” help them feel at ease and still keep the focus on the special meaning of the day.
2. Give them space to feel grown-up and little.
Eight is a magical age, old enough to understand the moment, but still so innocent. I like to sneak in a few detail shots of their hair, dress, or tiny hands to capture that in-between.
3. Talk to them like a friend.
An 8-year-old is more relaxed when they feel seen and heard. I always ask about their favorite part of getting ready, or what they’re most excited about. The best smiles come when they feel proud of what this milestone means. #BaptismPhotography #BaptismPortraits #ChildPortraitPhotography #LDSBaptism #ldstemple
