Trash the Dress Session in Corona del Mar I What to Expect + Planning Tips

Have you ever felt like your wedding day rushed past you in a wonderful, yet overwhelming blur? One of my favorite experiences photographing a Bonus Wedding Moment: A Trash the Dress Session at Corona del Mar brought this exact feeling to life. Imagine a sunset session along the stunning cliffs of Corona del Mar, where you get to relive and breathe in the moment that slipped by too quickly, but this time with no schedules or expectations.

If you’re planning your session with us at Gilmore Studios, we’ll guide you through every detail, from location timing to styling and movement so you can fully enjoy this second chapter of your wedding story.

Why Corona del Mar is Perfect for a Trash the Dress Session

A Trash the Dress session offers a unique kind of freedom. If you felt the pressure of your wedding day agenda, this is your moment to reclaim that joy and spontaneity in one of the most breathtaking spots in Southern California. Just as one of my past clients discovered, it’s about moving past the decorum and letting yourself enjoy the ocean breeze without a second thought about time or guests. Picture stepping onto the soft sands of Corona del Mar, your dress catching the gentle golden light as it lightly brushes the sea… that’s where the magic begins.

After your session, many couples love turning it into a date night. Some favorite local spots include:

For a cozy, romantic dinner, try The Quiet Woman

Tips for a Successful Beach Trash the Dress Session

Let the Environment Guide You

Choose Your Adventure: Whether you plunge into the ocean or let the gentle tide kiss your dress hem, it’s all about how bold you feel. I always encourage my clients to lean into what they’re comfortable with.

Time It Right: Schedule around sunset for the most flattering light. The glow paints the cliffs and your dress in softly romantic shades.

Move and Flow: Fabric fluttering in the ocean breeze, waves playing at your feet, let these organic elements add life and authenticity to your images.

Why Hiring a Professional Trash the Dress Photographer Matters

Having a trusted photographer who knows the tides, light, and terrain is essential. You can be bold but safe… and you don’t need to worry about a thing when someone experienced is guiding you.

At Gilmore Studios, we approach Trash the Dress sessions with both artistry and intention, blending movement, emotion, and coastal light in a way that feels romantic, not reckless.

For photographers who are inspired by these types of storytelling sessions and want to elevate their craft, we also offer education and mentorship through Photographers Roadmap. You can explore resources, courses, and business strategy tools at:

Choosing the Right Dress for Your Corona del Mar Trash the Dress Photos

Your Gown, Your Choice: Some brides love using their original dress, while others prefer a more affordable option. Whatever you choose, make it true to you.

Prepare for Nature’s Elements

Essentials to Pack: Consider bringing a towel, a change of clothes, and comfortable sandals. Being prepared means you can fully enjoy the session without any stress about the aftermath.

The Heart Behind Trash the Dress

So, why does all this matter? Booking a Trash the Dress Photography Session in Corona del Mar is about celebrating you. It’s an opportunity to capture raw, unbridled joy and maybe a touch of closure. It’s about creating photographic stories that reflect your own stories that you can cherish far beyond the wedding day.

What nobody tells you about being in front of a camera.

It feels awkward… at first.

You don’t know what to do with your hands.
You’re thinking about your smile.

That part? Completely normal.

Here’s what actually happens:
I guide you through everything, keep it moving, fix the little details…

And then it shifts.

You relax.
You stop thinking about the camera.
And it finally feels like you.

Do you think you’d feel awkward in photos? 👇
Here are things to look for when choosing a wedding photographer.

This decision matters more than most couples realize.

Because once the day is over…
this is what you have left.

Here’s how to actually choose the right one:

1. Style that reflects your vision
If you don’t love how it looks now, you won’t love it later.
2. Experience handling real wedding days
Timelines shift. Lighting changes. You want someone who can adapt.
3. A genuine connection
You’ll spend a lot of your day with them. It should feel easy.
4. Professionalism you can count on
Clear communication, reliability, and someone who shows up prepared.
5. Full galleries, not just highlights
Anyone can post the best 10 images. Ask to see the whole story.
6. Real reviews and reputation
Look for consistency, not just one good experience.
7. Value that matches what you expect
Not just price… what are you actually getting?

Here’s what I’m doing behind the scenes:
guiding when needed, adjusting to the day as it unfolds, and making sure nothing important is missed.

Because your photos shouldn’t just look good…
they should feel like your day.

What matters most to you when choosing a photographer? 👇
Most people think they’re just for announcements… But they end up being so much more.

This countdown? One of my favorites.

Here’s why:
It gives you something to look forward to. A way to mark the days, celebrate the little milestones, and stay connected while they’re away.

And it turns these photos into something you actually use… not just something that sits on your phone.

Because this season? It’s a big one.

And having something tangible to hold onto during it…
matters more than you think. 🤍

How long does a cake smash session really take?

About 45 minutes and here is everything we fit into that time.
We start with portraits first. Clean outfit, no cake, just your baby being adorable. Then we bring in the cake, swap into the smash outfit and let the chaos begin. 🎂

And if you want to keep going, we can do a quick splash session at the end. Some of the biggest smiles of the whole session happen right there.

Three different looks. One session. 45 minutes.
It goes fast so I make sure every minute counts.

Are you surprised we fit all of that in? 👇

Should you still get photos done when your kids are teenagers and older?

Life starts changing fast.

Schedules don’t line up the same.
They’re out with friends more.
Conversations get shorter.
And before you realize it… the house feels a little quieter.

Here’s how I approach these sessions:
I don’t force anything that feels unnatural. No overly posed moments. I guide you into simple, relaxed interactions so it still feels like your family, just in this season.
