Spring Cake Smash Session – 1st birthday
For Carter’s special 1st birthday cake smash session, we channeled all the gorgeous bright pastels of spring. Our palette inspiration started from her adorable pink gingham dress, which reminded us of a picnic blanket. We started with a mixed pattern bunting, then we added oversized paper flowers, and an adorable felt and pom-pom crown (all pulled from our huge inventory of props).
We love when we can bring together such a magical theme using what’s available in our studio. The crowning piece was the oversized cupcake dotted in bright pastel flowers from our amazingly talented friends at French’s Bakery. Not only do they produce the most gorgeous and imaginative birthday cakes for all of our cake smash shoots, but they also do jaw-dropping wedding and other special occasion cakes, plus the most incredible cookies, pastries, and plate-sized danish.
It helps for our pick up that they are just a short distance from Gilmore Studios in Costa Mesa!
Smashing Cakes is FUN!
Before we got sweet Carter good and messy with her Cake Smash Session (no coaxing necessary for her to figure out frosting was yummy!), we took some time to take some beautiful photos of her, her mom, and Grandma on a timeless white background. We love that Grandma joined in for this portrait session, and we think it’s a great idea to consider grandparents in your professional pictures, and maybe even gifting them with a print when they’re ready.
We took some of just mom and baby, just grandma and baby, and a three generation shoot. If you ever worry about coordinating for pictures, going all white is always a safe option, especially if you’re in our studio where we have great lighting and a clean white backdrop.
We can’t wait to see Carter and her family again for her next round of pictures! It’s always fun to watch our clients grow!
