Cake smash birthday portrait – On the farm theme

Cake smash birthday portrait photographer – Farm Theme

Little Redge is the happiest one year old you’ll ever meet. This guy always has a smile for everyone he meets! Mom wanted a farm themed birthday set and we kind of went crazy gathering props, even down to the hilarious pink piggy birthday cake!

All of our cake smash birthday sessions are custom made to our client’s vision and include a yummy cake from French’s Cupcake Bakery. Cake smash birthday portrait photography is my favorite!

Custom Photography Sets

We built a fabulous farm birthday party themed set for a super-cute one year old!

Each time we get to create (or recreate) an idea, Jennifer always steps up her game and finds something new to add to the background. You have to love the fake bottles of milk, right? It took her a little while to figure out how to paint the inside of a bottle!

We had some mini hay bails on the shelf from another set and also used some vintage wood crates we have at the studio. Being a cake smash birthday portrait photographer is a hard job (but someone has to do it!)

Props

    1. It’s totally normal to feel awkward at first.
You’re not professional models, you’re just two people in love. The best photos happen once you relax, talk, laugh, and just enjoy each other. I’ll guide you through it all.
2. Outfits matter, but comfort matters too.
Wear something that feels like YOU. You’ll move more naturally and feel more confident, which always shows up in the final images.
3. Your location should mean something.
Whether it’s where you had your first date or just somewhere that feels like you, personalizing your session makes the photos even more meaningful.
    1. Your baby sets the pace and that’s how it should be.
Newborn sessions are slow, quiet, and flexible. Diaper changes and cuddles? All expected. We’re on baby time, always.
2. The simple shots are the ones you’ll treasure.
You don’t need a dozen props. Some of the most timeless images are the ones where baby is just wrapped up in your arms, barely posed, just…loved.
3. Your only job is to show up.
You don’t have to clean the house, bring Pinterest ideas, or stress about how your baby will behave. We’ve got it covered, you’re doing great already.
    1. Your baby might not “smash” the cake and that’s OK.
Some babies dive in face first, and some barely touch it. Either way, it’s adorable, and we’ll get great photos no matter how messy (or tidy!) it gets.
2. Keep the outfit simple and comfy.
Tutus and bow ties are cute, but comfort is key. If your little one isn’t loving the outfit, it’ll show. We always say: one outfit for portraits, one for smashing, and keep it soft and easy to move in!
3. Timing matters more than you think.
We’ll plan your session around your baby’s happiest time of day, usually after a nap and snack. That way we get smiles instead of meltdowns.
WE. ARE. TIRED. (Tag your _ _friends!)
The difference is in the details….
This is the part you don’t always see… but it’s where the magic happens.
The hours spent editing every image by hand.
Adjusting color, light, skin tones — without losing the realness.
Bringing out the magic you might not have noticed in the moment.
