One of our favorite parts about being a Carlsbad Village Family Photographer is we get to meet families from all over the USA! This family was vacationing at the Ocean Palms Beach Resort in Carlsbad Village. This cute hotel is literally right across the street from the beach!

After surfing around on Instagram, they came across Gilmore Studios! They needed a photographer to document their “very large” family reunion. We let them know that large families were the norm for us. Our own family reunion has over 30 people (and yes, we shoot it every year) so we are used to kids and chaos! We found a spot on the beach that was perfect for their family portrait session. Carlsbad Village Family Photographer

Tips and tricks from a Carlsbad Village Family Photographer

  1. Have your group arrive early! There is always one who forgets something (or someone!)
  2. Parking: Carlsbad Village is always busy. We usually find parking off of Ocean St. and Grand Ave.
  3. Have little ones? We love kids but rewards always help us do our job. It’s amazing what a pack of Smarties candies can do. 🙂
  4. Time of day? We love to shoot one hour before sundown. You can use Time and Date to check out sunset times in Carlsbad.
  5. Congrats! You survived your family reunion session! Let’s celebrate! Here is a list of great restaurants within walking distance.

How long does a cake smash session really take?

About 45 minutes and here is everything we fit into that time.
We start with portraits first. Clean outfit, no cake, just your baby being adorable. Then we bring in the cake, swap into the smash outfit and let the chaos begin. 🎂

And if you want to keep going, we can do a quick splash session at the end. Some of the biggest smiles of the whole session happen right there.
