Garden Fairy 1st Birthday Cake Smash Session

Lily’s garden fairy 1st birthday cake smash session was one of our favorites of 2017! Since this was a theme we had never attempted, I had to do some homework on pixies and fairies. Mom did a fantastic job on the fairy dress and wings so I knew I needed to come through with an amazing garden fairy set. We ended up finding the perfect backdrop at Intuition Backgrounds.

Next was to figure out what to do for a birthday cake! We can always count on the girls at French’s Cupcake Bakery to come through with something cute! The mushroom birthday cake came out perfect. Amazon came in handy for some enchanted forest mushrooms. The puffballs, rose petals, log cake stand, and wood were found in the studio, left over from the lumberjack themed set. Lily loved her birthday cake- but she’s a fairy, and fairy’s don’t like to get too messy!

How do you prepare to say goodbye for two years?

This family has six boys, and one was about to leave for Finland on his mission. They scheduled this session a few weeks before he left, knowing how important it was to have everyone together in one place before such a big change.

These are the photos that hold so much weight later on. Not because everything is perfect, but because everyone is there. If you are heading into a season of transition, this is your reminder to pause and document it.
