Balboa Fun Zone Photographer – Engagement Session

Balboa Fun Zone Photographer – Newport Beach Engagement

Kim and Clark’s engagement session was super sweet. They wanted to stay close to home in Balboa so we literally walked down the street for their engagement photos! Kim’s family are lifelong member at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club (which is currently being rebuilt!) Her father is actually one of the engineers on the project. The Balboa Fun Zone is a great engagement location. Their isn’t much to be excited about inside today’s Fun Zone, which is sad for us because we grew up coming here back in the day. But there is still plenty of history to be in the background of your engagement photos! The old Ferris Wheel still operates daily – check out the cool history here. You can still get an ice cream cone or go on a boat ride. Gilmore Studios is a local Balboa Fun Zone Photographer and has photographed hundred’s of portrait sessions there.

The Balboa pier

The Balboa pier was built way back in 1906! It is a landmark on the Balboa Peninsula and makes a perfect background for photos. Most of our clients want a photo under the pier with the old wood pillars. This is always a safe place for photos at any time of the day. However, sunset is always our favorite time of the day for portraits.

From the couple…

  • How did you meet?

Clark and I went to High School together and had mutual friends. Each time we hung out together through friends, we were always dating other people. (I always had an eye on him…) We went out one night with a friend (and were both single) and made out in a taxi cab on the way home from the bar. The rest is history!
  • Clark proposed on Thanksgiving while my family and some friends were over. He pulled me outside and told me he was thankful for me. He then got on one knee. It was simple and special!

Simple Sophistication

We are on Instagram
Two years old looks very different than one, and that is exactly why it matters.

By age two, their personality is fully showing up. The expressions, the movement, the little quirks that disappear before you even realize it. These sessions are less about props and more about capturing who they are becoming. Let us know if you want to book a studio session today 💕
How do you prepare to say goodbye for two years?

This family has six boys, and one was about to leave for Finland on his mission. They scheduled this session a few weeks before he left, knowing how important it was to have everyone together in one place before such a big change.

These are the photos that hold so much weight later on. Not because everything is perfect, but because everyone is there. If you are heading into a season of transition, this is your reminder to pause and document it.
Have you documented this stage yet?

Sitting up sessions are one of my favorites. We started with family, then slowed things down and focused on baby’s expressions and personality. Simple backgrounds, no distractions, just this moment in time.
Have you ever noticed how the most meaningful moments don’t need much at all?
The power was out in the church during this baptism, which made everything feel quieter and more intentional. Just family, faith, and a moment that truly mattered. Sometimes simplicity has a way of stripping things back to what is most important.
Who says Christmas photos have to be serious?

This family showed up in red, brought the energy, and leaned fully into the fun. The funny poses, the laughs, and the personalities are exactly what made this session feel so them. These are the photos you smile at every time you walk by them.
