, Little Indian Cake Smash – 1st birthday Session

We just had the cutest set request! Little J had the perfect head dress for his little Indian cake smash session! He was such a happy baby and loved his little drum birthday cake (Designed and baked by French’s Cupcake Bakery in Costa Mesa). His two older brothers came along for the celebration so we were able to get a family portrait in as well! Again, thanks so much to the family for the incredible request, and to little J for being such a great baby to work with. We certainly had a blast!

Little Indian Cake Smash Props

Because we had such a special request, we needed some special props! First of all, we got the feather background tree stump at Lemondrop Backdrops. Then, MrandMrsandco. had the small wooden canoe that we purchased. Additionally, we purchased the grey and white teepee and wooden sign at Hobby Lobby. After that we got the camp fire from Target, and finally we custom made the log cake stand from wood found at Michael’s, and Mom provided the outfits and feather head dress.

Little Indian Birthday Cake Smash Sessions are done in the studio. All birthday cake smash sets are custom built to the client’s theme or color scheme and include a cake from French’s Cupcake Bakery in Costa Mesa. The Little Indian Cake Smash concept was a collaboration with the client.

How do you prepare to say goodbye for two years?

This family has six boys, and one was about to leave for Finland on his mission. They scheduled this session a few weeks before he left, knowing how important it was to have everyone together in one place before such a big change.

These are the photos that hold so much weight later on. Not because everything is perfect, but because everyone is there. If you are heading into a season of transition, this is your reminder to pause and document it.
