Engagement Photography Session at the beach – Jimmie + Chelsea
We met up with Jimmie and Chelsea early in the morning for their engagement photography session at the beach. The light was good and we had the beach to ourselves! The Dory fleet fish market was open so there were tons of seagulls and pelicans all over the beach. Jennifer HATES birds, I think she still has nightmares! They are such a fun couple and we can’t wait for their wedding at Terra Laguna Beach.

The proposal
Jimmie and I had talked about getting married several times, but there was never a discussion about when we would get engaged or married. We just new that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. On August 3, we were just hanging out at home. It is really hot in Bakersfield in the summer, so we were just enjoying being in the air conditioning. After it cooled off and we finished having dinner at home, Jimmie asked me if I wanted to take a drive so we could get out of the house for a little bit. I am always happy to go out and do things with him, so I was excited that we were going to get out for a little bit. When we got in the car, he asked me if I wanted to take a drive out towards Lake Isabella. To get there, we take a windy road that runs right by the Kern River. We drove for about 30 minutes and then decided to pull off and park at this little spot that has parking. We decided to get out of the car to see if we could see the river. It was about 8pm and it was dark outside.
I looked up and I remember thinking and telling Jimmie that I could not believe how clear the sky was and how many stars were out. We were far away from all the city lights so they sky was so clear and bright, but only from the light emanating from the millions of stars above us. We could not see the river, but we could hear it running down and hitting the rocks. It is funny because I remember thinking that this was one of the most romantic things that we have ever done. We stood by the car, listening to the river, gazing at the stars and the sky and just talking. I had no idea that he was going to propose or that he had the ring in his pocket. I didn’t even know that he had purchased the ring. After we stood there talking for a while, I asked him if he was ready to go. He said, “Lets wait a little bit longer.” That was fine with me. Then, all of a sudden, I looked over at him and he was getting down on one knee. I literally could not figure out what he was doing. I thought that he was going to tie his shoe or fix something on his shoe.
The thought of him proposing right there, at that very moment, did not even cross my mind. I was just standing there watching him trying to figure out what he was doing. He got down on one knee, grabbed my hand, looked into my eyes and told me that he loved me more than anything in the world and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Then he asked me to marry him. I was so excited, shocked and surprised that I could hardly speak. When I finally was able to get words out, I yelled “YES!” We hugged and kissed and told each other how much we love each other. I couldn’t even see the ring because it was so dark outside, so I left him standing there and got in the car and turned on the interior lights. I almost died when I saw the ring! It was one of the best days of my entire life!
